    Virginia enacted safety plan legislation but yet they cut kinship care services, having it only available in specific areas, leaving families in poorer rural areas to struggle with taking in more kids to which theyre unprepared for under the DSS general info 5 line safety plan. There is something seriously wrong here. Crazy part of this is that there's only one state in the US that uses 100% of federal granted social services funds for their poorest or those in need. The rest use these funds for other purposes. Can we regulate this?

  • @ghostladyj6364
    @ghostladyj6364 18 дней назад

    Kinship is payment or partial reimbursement for family members or extended friends to take children preventing foster care. They get zero time to consider this decision and zero assistance once they take the child(ren). There is no reunification effort with the parents and no resources for those taking the kids. Its a safety plan, illegally placed in some cases, followed by lies to close out a case. Its hidden foster care without the support. Just as many kids in hidden foster care as regular foster care only its not tracked in all states. This causes trauma and financial hardships to the children, families, and those trying to help. It needs to be addressed.

    A domestic carbon tax doesn't have to be regressive. Tax the carbon content of the fossil fuels at the source (e.g., the fossil fuel companies). Then, rather than the government keeping the money, it rebates it in equal shares to all taxpayers. If an individual's economic activity represents less than the average amount of carbon emissions, that individual makes money. Why? Because the rebate will be larger than the cost increases passed along by the FF cos. That would be almost every household at or below the average household income, or even the median, because wealthier people cause more carbon pollution by far. They have bigger houses, buy way more stuff, and travel more. If Sen. Sheldon is correct that the FF cos won't be able to pass along the entire tax due to competitive pressures, then the net gain for households would be even better. And any household could manage its economic activity to reduce its exposure to the higher prices caused by the embedded cost of the tax, and it would be easy: the lower-cost good is likely to be the lower-carbon option. Sen. Cassady is worried about sticky government fingers. That can be countered by using Social Security as the program design lodestar. Politicians don't dare redirect Soc Sec benefits away from individual beneficiaries. It would be political suicide. The rebate could be codified to be the same. Once people get used to money coming in the door every month, politicians would be loathe to take it away. Far from being regressive, a carbon tax could actually be progressive with the right program design.

It has been very helpful to me, an elder & former NED Section 8 Voucher holder who was able to convert that voucher into a Housing Choice voucher before losing that privilege during the pandemic. Still struggling with permanent housing issues as I seek a position which directly addresses the unsheltered population in my area. Following your guidance to “go where your journey take you”, I hope to turn my deep past experiences into treasures for a wider population addressing “homelessness”. There is far more than placing people with a personal shelter before it may be called “a home”.

    Renting a house is not the same as owning a house and I'm sorry but if you've ever lived in housing you will know that the houses that they have for the people to rent at least in my state are very unkept and usually dilapidated homes that are falling apart. I mean I had a friend who went from an apartment with her housing voucher then she got a house with her housing voucher and the house was in such bad condition that she literally left everything inside that house and had to buy all new furniture and then move back into a apartment with her housing voucher these apartments are brand new mind you but that's not the same thing as a house people get assistance with housing but I do know that this person that I'm speaking of has literally six children so that's why she gets her housing voucher okay they are not up to par this is not how they portray these housing programs and also what about people who are working and can't afford to live do you have to have children to get a housing voucher like there's not enough advocacy for people with mental health for people that work low-income jobs like what are the stipulations because I know in my state it's not easy to get housing they act like it is but it's not it's also not easy to get health insurance especially if you're homeless forget about it they literally do not have health insurance for poor people I know for a fact. And also in my state State the programs are more for Latina communities than for just low-income communities I am white and because of that I feel almost discriminated against because of the fact I'm white like they're they're not really helping me honestly that's not fair there should be advocacy for everyone play the act like it is but at the end of the day that people that work for these programs sometimes are very biased they're very racist and they don't help everything looks good on paper but no they just want their funding that's why but it all should be exposed because it's not helping anybody especially the housing and mental health programs for low-income the community health Care all that is not helping people it's a lie they make it sound good and it's not working and shame on all of you

    Will Adler "We did a report two weeks ago on where voters were getting information from, and AI chatbots ranked below 'I don't know where I get my information from' on that scale .." Sir, I feel it incumbent on me to say that as chatbots and AI systems evolve and collect and collate information, it stands to reason that this will eventually rank much higher, the same way that it did for the Internet itself during its own advent in the 1990s when it began to become more prevalent. I think that AI systems will eventually dominate the internet just as they're beginning to dominate social media, as you yourself indicated when you mentioned that recently one almost cannot use social media without being forced into a conversation with an AI chatbot.

    Ruth knows more about immigration law and policy then I'll ever forget. It's frustrating though to hear her frequently refer to "Afghanis." Afghanis are a currency. Afghan nationals are Afghans. The second issue is referring to the flag officer recommendation requirement. There are two SIV programs. The much smaller 1059 program, which only has 50 visas available year. The much larger program, which has a lifetime allocation of more than 30,000 visas, and is currently in need of an additional 20k-40k, is the 602b program. And the 602b program does not have a flag officer recommendation requirement. There is a requirement for a letter of recommendation, but it must come from an immediate supervisor at the company the SIV petitioner worked for, not a US servicemember, much less a flag officer.

    3:05:30 I really don't understand this question. So there are carbon credits that are being sold at $4 to $8 a ton. If I understand right a good number of these are generally carbon credits from countries that advertise their rainforests as carbon sinks? In the case of that, essentially you are paying them to maintain their rainforests... and then there is the push and pull between maintaining those rainforests and those countries trying to develop their nation, which in the course of human history generally means deforestation and development of the land... at that point, I guess my question is perhaps it's too simple to treat carbon credits like it is like most other commodities? I guess you could say it's cheap right now because for rainforests the "start-up cost" is nothing, but in the current state of the world only growing rainforests and maintaining them is not going to lead the world to net zero. The natural processes that reduce carbon, in my lamens view, takes up too much land and considering you have to convince/subsidize still-developing nations to not use oil/gas you are just passing the hot-potato-known-as-cost somewhere else, there's not enough land and time in the world for the natural processes to reach the 2050 goals.

    Thanks for holding this discussion! Just to expand on my comments, based on my experience with the music industry in the early 2000’s, it seems like there’s a decent chance that consumers will disregard whatever restrictions are put into place, especially given that the outputs of these systems are further removed from the individual training data elements than say, an MP3 of a song. Basically, I think that while that the general public is willing to respect the wishes of individual creators, they’re much less likely to respect large corporate entities, even if they have the force of law behind them. As such, I think that any regulatory approach that attempts a credit/compensation/opt-out regime may not be viable due to civil disobedience, especially as computing power continues to increase and individuals/small groups are able to produce larger and larger models (to respond to one of the guests’ assertions that large models are confined to large companies). One interesting possibility, however, is a compulsory licensing scheme. This was a suggested in a question in the list the US Copyright Office provided in its ongoing comment period. This might be an option if it turns out the public is willing to pay creators but becomes frustrated having to ask for permission.
